Turkmenistan and Romania held political consultations in Ashgabat
On July 2, 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Romania. The Romanian delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Teodor Melescanu.
In accordance with the agenda of the consultations, the sides considered issues of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in all spheres, in particular, in the political and trade-economic areas of cooperation. In this regard, noting the high level of political-diplomatic partnership, the sides exchanged views on the possibility of expanding mutually acceptable cooperation in this direction. In this context, the significant role and importance of high-level visits were highlighted. It should also be noted that regular consultations are being held at the level of the Foreign Ministers of the two countries on the margins of international forums and conferences.
Speaking about the relations in the trade-economic sphere, the sides marked the spheres of energy and transport, having highlighted the perspectives of partnership between the seaports of Turkmenbashi and Constanta.
In addition, issues of further deepening of bilateral humanitarian ties had been discussed during the talks. In particular, the parties expressed their opinion on the need to intensify cooperation in the field of education and other spheres of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Taking into account the relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union, in the context of Romania's upcoming chairmanship of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019, it was hoped to support active cooperation with Romania and within the EU.
At the end of bilateral political consultations, the Action Plan between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania for 2019-2020 had been signed.
