President of Turkmenistan participated in the meeting of the heads of CIS member states in St. Petersburg
On December 6, 2018, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Russian Federation on a working visit to attend an informal meeting of the heads of CIS member states.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proceeded to the Boris Yeltsin Library from the St. Petersburg International Airport, where a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council was held under the chairmanship of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
After mutual greetings and traditional photo-sharing ceremony against the background of the State flags of the Commonwealth countries, the meeting participants were invited to an informal dinner on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, which was held in an informal setting, the leaders of the countries had the opportunity to exchange views on key aspects of interaction, as well as on a number of issues of an international character of mutual interest. The heads of states expressed the unanimous opinion that the current informal summit would serve as a prologue to further consolidate efforts, initiate new joint projects and programs.
Our country deservingly completed the mission of the chairing of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2012. Having undertaken again the chairing of this structure in 2019, Turkmenistan aims to support the consolidation and development of traditionally friendly interstate relations comprehensively.
The priority objectives of the Concept of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2019 is to build confidence between states, support stability and security, strengthen political and diplomatic interaction, increase the level of cooperation between the CIS and international organizations, including the UN and the OSCE, and create conditions for trade and economic cooperation, integration into world economic relations.
After the informal dinner, the leaders of the CIS countries went to Mariinsky Theatre, which has marked its 235th anniversary this year, where the Heads of the States enjoyed “The Nutcracker” by P. I. Tchaikovsky.
Upon the completion of the programme of the working visit, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left Saint Petersburg to homeland.
