THE 18TH SESSION OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE “TURKMENISTAN-EUROPEAN UNION” TOOK PLACE IN BRUSSELS
On the 26th of February 2019, the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Minister of Finance and Economy participated in the work of the 18th regular meeting of the Joint Committee “Turkmenistan-European Union” in Brussels.
During the session, the sides discussed wide range of issues on bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of trade and economy between Turkmenistan and the European Union. Particularly, issues such as macroeconomic situation in Turkmenistan, investments, trade, transport, energy, economic and financial cooperation, education and vocational training, as well as the supremacy of law and humanitarian aspects were discussed.
In addition, the parties also considered the subjects of state management reforms, climate change and protection of environment, as well as issues of security, including the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
The new EU strategy for Central Asia was separately considered in the framework of negotiating the perspectives of cooperation. As the result of the meeting, the sides have agreed to hold the next 19th Session of Joint Committee “Turkmenistan-European Union” in Ashgabat in 2020.
Besides, a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan and Director-General of the European Commission’s Department for International Cooperation and Development Pierre Amilhat was held in the sidelines of the 18th Session of Joint Committee “Turkmenistan-European Union” on the 25th of February 2019. During the meeting, the sides discussed a number of issues related to regional cooperation development, implementation of technical projects and programs of EU in Turkmenistan, including the “CADAP” and “BOMCA” projects in the security sphere.
