A meeting was held in Switzerland with the President of the International Cycling Union (UCI)

On May 29, 2018 in Aigle, Switzerland, a meeting of the delegation of Turkmenistan with the President of the International Cycling Union (UCI), D. Lappartient, was held, during which the issues of strengthening partnership with the UCI were discussed.

In particular, the Turkmen side reported that this year on June 3, World Bike Day will be celebrated for the first time. In this regard, as well as in the context of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the optimal use of cycling opportunities, the Turkmen leadership made a number of proposals, including the organization of events in the country on this sport at the world, continental and regional levels, as well as international methodical conferences and professional sports seminars, master classes, etc.

Among other things, it was proposed that in 2019, in cooperation with the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) of UNESCO and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT), an international conference will be held in our country on the importance of a bicycle for the urban transport system.

At the same time, it was noted that before the 5 th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games which were held in September in Ashgabat, an indoor cycling track was built, which corresponds to the Olympic standards for holding international competitions of the highest level.

In turn, D.Lappartient congratulated the Government of Turkmenistan on the successful adoption of the UN Resolution on the establishment on June 3 as World Bike Day and the development of cycling both among the population of Turkmenistan and in the international arena. The President of the UCI also said that he plans to take part in the city of New York, USA, in a series of events dedicated to the celebration of the World Bike Day. This day will be widely celebrated by the International Cycling Union, where all countries of the world will be invited.

Also, the President of the UCI expressed readiness to assist in further promotion of Turkmenistan's ideas and initiatives to conduct large-scale sports events in the country.
