UNFPA presented the Global Report 2018

On November 21, 2018, the presentation of the Global Report 2018 of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) “The Power of Choice: Reproductive Rights and the Demographic Approach” was held in the conference hall of the capital hotel “Yildyz”.

The event was attended by representatives of the United Nations Development Program in Turkmenistan, UNFPA, the Ministry of Health and the Medical Industry, the State Committee on Statistics, the media, and youth.

This year, the Global Report was devoted to the cooperation of international organizations and government agencies of Turkmenistan in the field of ensuring gender and reproductive rights and protecting the reproductive health of the population, which are the third and fifth goals of sustainable development.

The UNDP Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan and UNFPA Representative Elena Panova emphasized that during the 25-year collaboration of the United Nations Population Fund with Turkmenistan, the organization supports the country's progressive efforts in ensuring gender and reproductive rights.

As part of the presentation of the Global Report, the winners of the annual UNFPA media competition for better coverage of reproductive health and gender equality issues in the media were announced.

The winner of the Grand Prix was Maya Amanmuradova, a correspondent for the ORIENT website of the Media-Turkmen information agency with the material “Family Planning Service in Turkmenistan: taking care of children's health”. The winners also included journalists representing Char Tarapdan radio station, Neutral Turkmenistan, Dashoguz Khabarlary, Turkmen Gundogary, Akhal Durmushy and Balkan gazeti print media.
