PARTICIPATION OF SPORTSMEN OF TURKMENISTAN IN THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL WINTER GAMES "CHILDREN OF ASIA"
In the regional center of the Sakhalin region of the Russian Federation, the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, on February 9, 2019, the first winter international sports games “Children of Asia” were opened, in which 28 teams from 20 countries took part. Participants in these games compete in 8 sports: biathlon, skiing, figure skating, snowboarding, alpine skiing, hockey, speed skating (short track) and ski jumping. Age of participants is not older than 16 years.
The Turkmen national team is represented by a hockey team and figure skaters.
On February 11-13, the team of Turkmen hockey players, which is at the stage of its formation and at the beginning of the process of accumulating gaming experience in international arenas, fought hard in the “B” subgroup. The tournament was very useful for our young hockey players, first of all, in terms of gaining experience in that kind of international competition.
On February 13, about 40 young figure skaters from different countries of the Asian continent entered the competition for medals in figure skating at the games “Children of Asia”. Our country in this sport is represented by Larisa Vakhitova and Aina Ekeeva, students of secondary schools in Ashgabat, who made a worthy debut in the framework of short programs. The figure skating tournament with the participation of our figure skaters continues.
The benefit for the Turkmen sport, which will bring the performance of our young athletes in the first international winter games "Children of Asia-2019", is difficult to overestimate. The experience gained in participating in these winter sports competitions, whose formation and rapid progress in our sunny country, sometimes causes surprise in the international sports community, will make it possible in future to compete in other similar international tournaments.
