A MEETING WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF CANADA WAS HELD AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN

On March 11, 2019, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Ambassador of Canada, Christopher Cootear, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Turkmen side noted the importance of developing relations with the countries of North America. In this context, the parties considered the possibilities of organizing the first mutual visits at the highest level.

Having also exchanged views on topical issues of expanding cooperation within the framework of international organizations, in particular the UN, the parties stressed the importance of intensifying relations in this direction.

Noting the common vision of new approaches to solving global problems through diplomatic negotiations, the Turkmen side noted the importance of the policy of neutrality of Turkmenistan, which plays an important role in ensuring peace and stability in the region. In this context, the parties made proposals for combining peacekeeping initiatives to combat international challenges such as terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.

The parties considered the possibilities of cooperation in the field of trade and economy, education, environmental protection, as well as preventive and water diplomacy.
